Application
All Culture Show registration materials, along with videotape, bio, and group photo MUST be submitted no later than November 15, 2006. Any video postmarked after the deadline will not be reviewed. We strongly recommend that all materials be sent using courier service to ensure that all materials are received safely and in a timely manner.Teams will be notified of their status by December 1, 2006.
Once the team is notified, and confirmed, all participants must register for the S.A.S.A. Conference and must submit all Culture Show registration requirements (see Culture Show Application for full details) no later than December 15, 2006.
Final team rosters must be submitted by December 15, 2006.
Only one team will be selected from each University/College.
Rules and Regulations Pertaining to the Performance:
Each act must be a minimum of 5 minutes and a maximum of 8 minutes long.
The CD on which a dance troupe's music is recorded must have all the music on one continuous track. All breaks and pauses must be pre-recorded onto the CD. We will not stop or break your CD upon request. The whole routine must be on one continuous track.
There should only be ONE TRACK on the performance CD. Any extraneous tracks must be cut from the CD. Each team MUST bring two copies of the CD.
Each team MUST have a minimum of 8 to a maximum of 25 participants.
Due to the confidentiality of each team's dance, NO team or persons affiliated with a team will be allowed to view, in any manner, the performance of other competing teams.
There will be a MANDATORY DRESS REHEARSAL on the day of the show. Rehearsals will begin in the morning on the day of the show and each act will be randomly assigned a twelve-minute time slot. If any team is late to their rehearsal time, they will only be permitted to use the remaining time allotted in their time slot. If any team misses their rehearsal time, they will NOT be able to get an additional rehearsal slot.
On the day of the show, the performers must report backstage at their assigned time. Failure to comply will lead to DISQUALIFICATION.
The use of an open flame, glitter, confetti, flower petals, liquid, or anything of that nature is strictly prohibited on or backstage. Any questions regarding the nature of props should be brought in advance to the attention of the cultural show chairs. S.A.S.A. and Culture Show Chairs are not responsible for any loss or damage to props.
The consumption of alcohol and/or use of any illegal substances or being under the influence at or near the Culture Show premises will NOT be tolerated. The S.A.S.A. committee reserves the right to DISQUALIFY and/or EXPEL any participant(s) partaking in, or reasonably suspected of, such activity.
Offensive language, vulgarities, and obscene gesturing are completely unacceptable within the competition. Any questionable material should be brought to the attention of the Culture Show Chair in advance.
Etiquette:
Each member attending the Culture Show should feel safe and welcome at all times. No attendee shall be discriminated against due to sex, race, sexual orientation, or physical appearance.
It is unacceptable to disrupt, in any shape or form, the progress of a competing team. If an individual is found doing so, his/her team shall be disqualified from the competition and may be asked to leave the conference.
We ask that you be respectful and considerate of all participants of the conference.
